Government Official Confirms MoD Looking at Security Risk from Vehicles from China, as Personnel Instructed to Refrain from Confidential Discussions in Cars.

An defense official has confirmed that the Ministry of Defence is currently looking into the possible security risks associated with Chinese-made vehicles, and personnel have been told to refrain from talking about secret information in all vehicles.

Security Advice for Defence Staff

During a recently aired interview on a radio station, Luke Pollard addressed reports that MoD officials have been told not to talk about classified material while riding in Chinese cars.

He stated that the MoD is “investigating” cars from China within its vehicle pools, but stressed that safety is a issue in every modern vehicles.

We have a fleet of thousands of cars in the MoD and those vehicles represent a very small number.
However whether you’re traveling in a vehicle from China or a non-Chinese car, what we’ve asked our people is to avoid connecting MoD technology into their car, to avoid having conversations at a classified classification in any kind of car, because of the increasing threats of surveillance that exist in every single automobile, to restrict those confidential talks in protected areas. This is a prudent and sensible thing for everyone concerned about safety.

After it was put to him that it would be prudent for the ministry to cease using all cars from China, Pollard replied: That is precisely what we’re investigating at the present time.”

Broader Security Context

This revelation follows reports from Scandinavian countries have warned the UK to the existence of dual-use kill switches in Chinese-made electric buses, which could allow China to switch off public transport and cause chaos to public transit.

Additionally, a Russian spy ship was reportedly directing lasers at RAF pilots, described as a “highly dangerous” act by government representatives.

This wider defence environment underscores the importance of strong protocols and vigilance in all aspects of government activities, including vehicle usage to communication habits.
